Proposal Idea of the Week

Before I get back to editing, a quick proposal idea, inspired by Joey and Jennifer…

This is for the more creative types. There are many avenues to attempt this feat, I will suggest a few. Draw, paint, or print out some sort of artwork, with the words, “Will You Marry Me?”

Now, this can be a clean piece of art, where you see it immediately. It can be abstract, where she has to figure out what the art means. Perhaps there is a picture of someone’s WILL (Last Will and Testament)- followed by a big U (or a pic of HER). Then maybe a picture of her/your parents from their wedding day (This is especially touching if you plan to surprise her with this on a holiday or at a time when family will be around). The last would be a picture of you. All together, you see what that spells out figuratively. If you can find the proper tools, turning the picture into a puzzle would add a whole other layer to the drama/excitement, as she races to put together the pieces…

Whatever you do, just make sure that as soon as she figures out what the picture is, and what you’re doing, that when she turns to you, you’re waiting, ON BENDED KNEE.

Make sure you have the ring turned right side up also. 😉

The thing on that day…

I’ve been deliberately avoiding wordy posts lately, deciding it might be better to have this blog be full of nothing but videos and proposal ideas, but today I digress. After a few long days of shooting and editing various different projects, and battling traffic all over LA, I had the opportunity to stay home today, to meet with a young couple, planning their wedding for December 2012. (I know, they are on the ball!)

I learned quite a few things today.
One, I actually have a reader, maybe a few…
Two, never talk to someone from behind if they have a twin and you’re not positive which one you are talking to… and
Three- I really love what I do!

Filming weddings for a living really is a blessing, and one that can often be taken for granted. But outside the lore of Hollywood success and cinematic hobbies, meeting and getting to know so many couples as they BEGIN the journey to the rest of their lives is really cool. Being able to preserve that special day, and in a way that makes it enjoyable to watch for not only them, but family and friends, as well as future generations, is even cooler!

And after a two hour meeting, I am very excited to be filming Jennifer and Joey’s wedding, in December of 2012. Crazy because I’m sure I’ll book another wedding for December, 2011 in the meantime. I’m honored to be the first vendor booked by them as well, which is the reverse of most cases. As I spoke with them about how “professional” the wording would be on the subject line for the paypal invoice I sent, Jennifer joked, “Oh just write ‘For the thing on that day.'” Yup, a very sweet couple. This is a wedding I look forward to and will have a lot of fun filming!

Now, back to editing…..

Proposal Idea of the Week

Okay, I know it’s been a while. Over two weeks in Sri Lanka, followed by jetlag and a week plus of being sick and here we are. I’m just about back up to speed, so here’s a fairly straightforward proposal idea, but one that will surely knock the socks off of your girlfriend.

1) Pick a date. It could be your anniversary, of when you started dating, had your first kiss, where you first met (if you know that, kudos!)…

2) Tell her you want to pick her up from work that day, and take her out to dinner. A day that already has special meaning works best, so as not to raise any ladylike antennae as to “what’s the occasion?” Tell her to bring a change of clothes.

3) Rent a limo. You can get a good one for $/50 an hour (maybe even better) if you look hard enough. If you can’t, email me and I’ll point you in the right direction.

4) Make spa reservation for a couples massage.

5)Make dinner reservations at a restaurant where you guys have had a special moment together- or even just a place she’s always wanted to go.

6) Most importantly, buy an engagement ring.

If you can follow these steps, when and how you decide to propose won’t matter. You can:

A) Propose as soon as you pick her up, waiting by the limo with a ring out, going On Bended Knee as she comes forward. (Her friends and co-workers will falling in love with you at this point)… or…

B) Wait until dinner, and build it up however you’d like.

After you have taken her for a massage and had some champagne in the limo, she may start to get suspicious, so you might even want to pop the question in the limo. It’s all up to you. By doing it right of way, the night becomes an all out celebration. (This is assuming she says yes- so if you have doubts- wait until dinner)!!

You can accomplish all of this for under $500, not including the ring, and depending on where you take her to dinner. Of course, adding a stop or two to the overall trip is great as well, and a great way to enjoy the limo. Check your local area for a classy bar with a great view, and stop there for a drink after the massage, and before dinner.

Whatever you do, any time you can shower your girlfriend with public affection and romantic overtures, she’ll be on cloud 9 all night. So enjoy the ride, and don’t fumble the words, just get On Bended Knee. 😉
